I was raised on a farm in south eastern Idaho. It was there I met and fell in love with my wonderful wife of 42 yrs. Together we have 8 children, who are the joy of our lives.
Life was great on the farm but extremely busy. In 1981 I started a Satellite TV business that grew very rapidly. It wasn't long before I couldn't do both so I left the farm to run my satellite business full time. By 1988 we had 2 stores, 1 in south eastern Idaho and another in Northern Utah. We got several awards for the largest and most service oriented dealership in the western US. I loved working with and serving people, but what a headache that business was!
I found my business owned me and I had very little family time. I then sold our business and decided to give network marketing and the direct sales industry a whirl.
I absolutely loved the concept! The ability to work from home, attend all my kids soccer games, etc. to have my life back. But mostly I found this industry loaded with too much hype, get rich quick claims and companies with over priced products and exaggereated claims. I learned that only a small percentage of companies had the best interest of their affiliates or customers best interest at heart. But at the same time I believe the same thing seems to apply to nearly all industries and corporations.
So for the last 10 years now I have searched and searched for a concept or business model, or better yet a company with a strong track record, a management team that has always shown the highest ethics, and integrity. I have looked at over 200 companies. I fould they all pretty much told a great story, they were good at spinning things so it sounded really good. So I decided that I needed to be able to see 10 years minimum of company history. Not just hear a great story.
I went through company after company that talked a great story, but when I dug into thier background and track record. I always came up disappointed. I did find a couple of good companies, but they were few and far between. These companies all seemed to be trying to use an MLM model that made a lot of money for a few, but paid very little to the masses. Some of these companies actually had some really great products.
My satellite business had taught me the value of doing the right thing for customers, providing more value than they expected. I found how valuable that was by how fast my business grew with very little advertiseing or mass marketing. Just word of mouth and referrals. It also taught me the value of having a high demand consumable product. The majority of my satellite TV business was one time sales. That's the biggest reason my business owned me. Every single month I had to create all new sales. With the exception of occasional service calls, I had to start over again every single month. So being able to see at least a 10 year track record, coupled with high demand consumable products is Critical!
